Family Policy
Parenthood Without Poverty
Maternity Leave
12 months optional leave, split at the mother's discretion before or after birth. The employer is compensated by the state at 1 + 1/12 the employee's wage (108.3%) for holding the position. The employer makes money by keeping the job open — no incentive to quietly replace her.
The mother's position is guaranteed when she returns. Employers who retaliate or eliminate the role face criminal penalties under the same framework as wage theft.
Paternity Leave
1 month mandatory immediately after birth. The employer is compensated at 1.5x the employee's wage for reserving the position. Dad is home helping set up whatever mom needs for the first year. Non-negotiable.
Retiree Volunteer Program
Retired women (60+) can volunteer to assist new mothers during their first year — helping with the baby, teaching, providing experienced support. This connects the mentorship culture to family life. Grandmothers who want to help but don't have grandchildren nearby can support young families in their community.
Childcare
Free, well-funded, and inspected. Government-funded childcare facilities with rigorous safety and quality standards. Regular inspections with real enforcement. Every working parent has access to quality childcare without financial stress.
